Easter, Garden Picnics, and Flowers in Our Hair March 25 2016, 0 Comments

There's the first day of Spring, sure, with its promise of longer days and warming temperatures. But its not until we pull out our linen apron, meet family and friends for brunch (or even better, a picnic!) and grab a basket to hunt for eggs. Easter marks the start of warmer weather, dinner on the patio, bare feet, and all things garden! Below are a few of our favorite ways to celebrate the season.

Make DIY Foraged Floral Crowns with your dearest little one, or your girlfriends

Dust off an old classic and enjoy a Pimm's Cup, the cocktail of choice for the English Gardener

Plan a laid back Easter picnic in the garden with farmer's market veggies and, or course, cake

Stop by NICHEoutside for a vibrant pot of Muscari Bulbs just about to flower

Decorate cookies, naturally with Emily McDowell's fruit and vegetable dyed royal icing.

And, or course, Dyeing Eggs Naturally

Happy Spring! March 20 2016, 0 Comments

Whether its cocktail hour in the new evening light, your favorite flower in bloom at the farmer's market, or the prospect of breaking ground in the garden (hello pea shoots!), spring is an intoxicating time of year!

We continue to add green moments to the shop. We're currently excited to be offering a variety of beautiful airplants and containers to display them in, kokedama hanging plants hand made for us in Seattle, and of course our custom potted houseplants

Stop by the shop until 7 to chat and have a look, it's light out!!

Sunset Mag Write Up! June 01 2015, 0 Comments

SHOP | Farm Fresh | Sunset Magazine June 2015 Issue
Capitol Hill's much-delayed Chophouse Row retail-office complex is finally opening, in phases, with a complementary duo leading the way. Tucked cheek by jowl on the building's mews — a pedestrian passageway open to the sky — Niche Outside and Kurt Farm Shop spill outdoors with colorful seating that underlies the Euro vibe. At Nisha Klein's nature-inspired boutique, the emphasis is quality, not quantity, which is apparent in the medley of goatskin gardening gloves, seasonal botanical soaps (for spring: oak moss/violet/freshly cut grass) and the fleur du jour (June portends white peonies). A varied vessel collection features madrona burls from Orcas Island and limited-edition vases by local ceramist Jeffry Mitchell. Next door, Kurt Timmermeister (Vashon Island's celebrated cheesemaker and author of Growing a Feast) brings his farm to the city via ice creams courtesy of his cow, Dinah, and her bovine pals. Emphatically not a "peanut, toffee, pecan, and marshmallow kind o f guy," Timmermeister makes simple yet unusual flavors: lemon verbena, tomato jam, Chinese plum sauce, and a cheesecake-ish variation born of his Flora's Cheese. He also sells 12 Washington State cheeses, such as Tieton's Rheba and Beecher's Flagship, plus plant starts so high-rise gardeners can harvest their own strawberries and tomatoes.
